Taxes and Spending

Our debt is now over $21 Trillion. We must collect sufficient revenue to pay for the federal government and not overspend. We do neither, which is why we have huge deficits. We must be willing to cut domestic, foreign policy and military spending. Moreover, we must be careful how much we lower taxes if there is a failure to cut spending. I would love for Americans to keep more of what they earn, but if government does too much at home and abroad, it is difficult to lower taxes.

I believe that we owe it to the next generations of Americans to begin to deal with the debt. The federal government will spend an enormous amount on interest on our debt in the coming decades. Furthermore, federal borrowing could raise the interest rates for households and businesses, which could reduce employment opportunities.
